A year of challenges and opportunities lies ahead
The beginning of a new year is a common time to reflect on the year that has passed, but also to look ahead to the future.
2018 is certain to be a year of change and significant milestones. The conclusion of the Brexit negotiations will draw ever closer in the next 12 months, but it is far from the only challenge to come.
The expansion of low and zero emission zones throughout the UK will drive the move towards alternatively-fuelled vehicles, which will require adaptability and forward thinking from the industry to maximise the potential.
Regulatory pressures grow ever stronger too, with an emphasis on safety and security requiring close scrutiny of technology, infrastructure and processes across the board. The benefits are clear, and everyone has their part to play in bringing this to fruition.
Progress and change are inevitable, but it is how we respond to these challenges that determines the level of success that follows. Time and again the road transport industry has risen to meet whatever challenges it has faced and reinforced its position as the lifeblood of the UK; connecting people, markets and businesses. 2018 will see more of the same.
