The Motoring Lectures is an annual event which takes place during the Club’s London Motor Week – an annual week-long series of events running from Monday 30th October to Sunday 5th November, encompassing a host of motoring dinners, book and engineering awards, a motoring art exhibition and a motor show.
The Lectures, which are available to both members and non-members, provide access to some of the biggest names in the industry with the opportunity to hear their unique journeys first-hand and experience the many wonders of the Royal Automobile Cub. This year’s speakers are Hans Stuck, Craig Horner, David Richards and Oliver Zipse.

With 43 years of world-class motorsport experience, the Club will welcome Hans-Joachim Stuck to the clubhouse, where he will share his experiences of driving the Nürburgring – also known as ‘The Green Hell’ – from a unique driver’s perspective, while also sharing a handful of his career highlights. With a vocation spanning Formula 1 and touring cars, Hans was appointed President of the German Motorsports Association in 2012.
Based upon his new book, Dr Craig Horner of Manchester University will explore the life of Edwardian racing driver and Napier salesman Selwyn Francis Edge, and his long and established relationship with the Royal Automobile Club. Using new research sources, this lecture will offer the most in-depth examination of this extraordinary pioneer of early motoring.
Our third speaker is David Richards C.B.E, Chairman of Prodrive. Throughout his distinguished career David has been Team Principal for the BAR and Benetton Racing Formula 1 teams and he is a former Chairman of Aston Martin. A world title-winning rally co-driver, David will share his thoughts on the changing face of the World Rally Championships.
The final speaker of the day will be Oliver Zipse, Board of Management for Production at BMW, who will share his insight into the factors that influence car production and award-winning car plant design.
This year’s event will be held in the Mountbatten Room in Pall Mall from 10.45am to 15.45pm. Tickets cost £20 for members and £27.50 for non-members, including a buffet lunch. The dress code is jacket and tie. Booking early is recommended as places are limited.
