A new competition from the Road Haulage Association in partnership with The Fuelcard Company, provider of the RHA Fuel card, is offering one lucky 18-25 year old the chance to train as an HGV driver.

Launched in support of the RHA’s National Lorry Week, the competition is aiming to attract more young people into HGV driving, where there is currently a national shortage of around 45,000 drivers.

2016 marks the second annual RHA Love the Lorry week, and this year’s theme is the ‘Next Generation’. Numerous events are taking place across the country from 19-24 September.

Richard Burnett, CEO of the RHA, said:

“National Lorry Week represents the perfect opportunity for the RHA to showcase the great work of our members and the industry as a whole. At a time when we are facing a driver shortage, what better way of highlighting the varied career opportunities available?

“Driver training is critical to the industry’s future success and giving the next generation the chance to win a driver training package is very welcome indeed.”

Richard Brown, Commercial Director – The Fuelcard Company, said:

“We’re delighted to be partnering with the RHA’s National Lorry Week and wanted to support this year’s theme of ‘The Next Generation’ by providing a competition prize that will encourage more young people to consider a career as an HGV driver. This amazing prize will give someone a great start to their new vocation.”

The winner will receive a driver training package from Pertemps Driver Training enabling them to start an exciting new career within the transport and logistics industry.

Anyone wishing to enter the competition needs to be aged 18-25, hold a clean driving license and tell us why they want to be a lorry driver in 100 words or less. Entry is online at www.lovethelorry.co.uk where more information on Love the Lorry week events can also be found.
