FIRST: 9G-TRONIC debuts in E-Class

Mercedes-Benz are launching a new fuel-saving, emission-cutting nine-speed automatic gearbox.

Making its debut in the new 252bhp E350 Bluetec diesel E-Class, launched in September, the 9G-TRONIC technology is available to order now.

In the new E-Class, the gearbox will reduce CO2 emissions to 138g/km for the saloon, with fuel consumption boosted to 53.3mpg.

This is an upgrade on the current model, which contains the 47.1mpg 7G-TRONIC seven-speed automatic gearbox.

The gearbox is expected to be added to other models across the Mercedes-Benz range over the next few years.
