CHARITY: Road Safety Week is in November

Employers are being encouraged to organise events and activities for November’s Road Safety Week.

Road Safety Week, organised by charity Brake, takes place between November 18 and November 24, with the theme of ‘tune into road safety’.

Sponsored by Specsavers and Romex, the initiative involves thousands of organisations, schools and communities promoting road safety to help save lives.

This year’s theme is designed to urge everyone to stay focused when using roads and avoid distractions – a key message for fleet employers to communicate.

Brake are advising hosting events such as a quiz and raffle, a karaoke night or talent show, or a dress-down day with a music theme.

Lisa Kendall, Volunteer Manager at Brake, said: “Fundraising is vital to Brake being able to continue its valuable work, supporting devastated victims of road crashes and campaigning for safer roads.

“Running a fundraiser for Brake can also be a lot of fun, and help people get behind the road safety cause.

“Road Safety Week is the perfect time to do it, and there are lots of great ways to tie this with this year’s ‘tune in to road safety’ theme, to raise life-saving awareness at the same time.”

Operators can find out more and register for an e-action pack at the Road Safety Week website.

The action pack contains guidance for fleets, a report on fleet driver distractions and a best practice guidance report on eliminating such distractions.
