The two-day Spirit of Belron® Challenge event celebrated 15 years of swimming, cycling and running for developing communities in South Africa.

Over 300 participants from Autoglass® joined the company’s 15th annual Spirit of Belron® charity event across 23rd and 24th September alongside 2500 colleagues from 33 different countries from around the globe.

Day one was a family friendly festival with a Guinness World Record attempt, and Battle of the Bands.  Day two – the main event – was a huge sporting festival at Dorney Lake, Windsor including triathlon events, duathlon, half-marathon, fun run, a scootathon for children plus family entertainment and an after-party.  The weekend raised over 1 million euros for Afrika Tikkun, making the event its most successful ever.

Over the past 15 years Autoglass® parent, Belron®,  has raised £6.4 million for Afrika Tikkun programmes in the South African cities of Johannesburg and Cape Town, which go towards helping disadvantaged youths. The charity provides hot nutritious meals, medical care, and youth development programmes for disadvantaged youths.

To celebrate the 15th anniversary, Autoglass® and Belron® created the largest human image of a continent setting a new Guinness World Record.  841 employees, friends and family stood in the shape of Africa to scoop the prize.

“The Spirit of Belron® challenge is a phenomenal event.  This year we had more people from the UK raising money for Afrika Tikkun than ever before and I couldn’t be prouder.  Giving back is deeply engrained in our culture at Autoglass® and this event encapsulates so much of what is special about our people – the care, pride and passion for others that we put into all we do”.
