UNVEILED: New Audi S1

Audi have revealed the new S1 and S1 Sportback.

Available in March and priced from £24,900, the high-performance hatchbacks are powered by a new 231PS 2.0litre TFSI engine.

The vehicles can sprint 0-62mph in 5.8seconds with a top speed of 155mph, and offer fuel economy and CO2 emissions of up to 40.3mph and 162g/km respectively.

They will be employed with all-wheel-drive – a first for a series production car in the segment.

Prof Dr Ulrich Hackenberg, Board Member for Technical Development at Audi, said: “The Audi S1 offers all the virtues of a sports car, great performance, direct handling and permanent Quattro drive that puts the power to the road in a superior way.

“The Quattro drive has a large following of fans, which is sure to become even larger thanks to the offering in this segment.”

Suspension configurations and electromechanical power steering have been extensively reworked, while damper settings are also adjustable via the debuting drive select adaptive dynamics system.

As standard, the S1 will be paired with six-speed manual transmission and 17inch wheels with 215/40 R17 tyres, though 18inch alternatives are available as an option.

Further standard specification includes xenon headlights, sports seats, climate control, six-speaker single CD audio system with iPod connection and Bluetooth.

Optional features include advanced key keyless access, hard disk-based MMI navigation and Bose surround sound system.
