The Freight Transport Association has signed a five-year contract extension with the AA fleet and SME division for the provision of breakdown and recovery services to 2,000 FTA Recovery members for their 86,000 mixed vehicle fleets.

With its 111-year strong history, the AA is still the UK’s leader in breakdown and recovery services. The fully comprehensive contract, effective immediately, sees the AA provide services to cars, vans and HGVs.

The AA has been the official provider to FTA since 1991. The partnership has seen multiple successes over its 26-year term including supporting the FTA Van Excellence programme, working closely with FTA on its ‘Love Logistics’ campaign, which highlighted career opportunities in the freight sector, and sharing in FTA’s 125th anniversary. The partnership has enabled FTA Recovery members to benefit from preferential breakdown rates and avoid annual fees whilst also streamlining the application process.

Stuart Thomas, head of fleet and SME services at the AA, said: “We are thrilled to have secured the extension and are delighted to be the official service provider for such a prestigious membership organisation, one of the largest in the UK. The past 26 years have seen us work closely with FTA to forge strong relationships across the two businesses. This has allowed us to further our understanding of the needs of our freight and fleet customers, which, in turn, enables us improve our offering.”

Thomas added: “In the next five years, we will continue to provide a stellar service to the FTA, backed by heavy investment planned by the AA across 2017/18. We provide our fleet and SME customers with the best service possible and do this by becoming their partners rather than just another supplier. Our team is in the prime position to advise fleet managers on the topics and issues they need to be aware of and to help support staff in providing excellent service at all times.”

Pippa Shepherd, FTA Director of Membership, said: “Our partnership with the AA is an important reinforcement of our commitment to ensuring members’ vehicles are back on the road swiftly when problems occur. FTA members can access these services without an annual subscription fee, and benefit from a reduced call-out rate and easy sign-up procedure. We are delighted to continue this partnership and offer our members the best possible recovery service to keep their vehicles moving.”

The AA has been independently named as the UK’s Most Trusted Brand, as well as being a Which? Recommended Provider for ten consecutive years. Plus, in March the AA Fleet and SME division was awarded the Fleet News Award for Customer Service and was highly commended as the Fleet News Award for Fleet Supplier of the Year 2017.

FTA was established in 1889, and has been supporting the interests of the transport industry since then in delivering safe, sustainable and efficient logistics. The organisation represents the needs of its members at local, national and European level, and campaigns to raise awareness of issues affecting the logistics sector, as well as providing vital training and advice on issues affecting members’ compliance.
