SKODA: Year two at RIDELONDON

As part of its three-year commitment to be the official vehicle provider, a fleet of 36 Škoda vehicles will support this weekend’s annual Prudential RideLondon two-day event.

The 36 cars, including the Škoda Superb hatch, Octavia Estate, Yeti and Rapid Spaceback models, will transport technical engineers, medical staff and essential maintenance kit across the route.

2014 marks the company’s second year of its three-year partnership with Prudential RideLondon ─ a legacy event of the 2012 Olympic Games.

Hailed as a fantastic platform to encourage more people to cycle safely, Prudential RideLondon is open to the general public.

Event organisers expect to see over 70,000 cyclists from around the country coming together over the weekend to take part in the biggest mass participation cycling event in the UK.

On Sunday August 10th, 25 cyclists entered by Škoda UK will ride the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100.

The team is made up of competition winners, journalists, customers and Škoda UK employees, all hoping to complete the, 100-mile closed-road, course through the capital and Surrey countryside.

The team will be led out by cycling legend and Škoda Cycling Ambassador Stephen Roche, the Triple Crown winner in 1987, who, with 58 career wins, is equalled only by Eddy Merckx.

Škoda UK has provided a series of group training days to help all competitors prepare over the past few months.

The training days saw three Škoda retailers team up with three UK professional cycling teams, to offer amateur riders the chance to train alongside top cyclists ahead of the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 event.

The training rides comprised professional riders from the elite women’s team, Matrix Vulpine, and men’s teams Rapha Condor JLT and Team Raleigh who will be taking part in the London-Surrey Classic race.

Stephen Roche said; “Mass participation cycling is great for fans of the sport.

“If I was a football fan, I couldn’t go and play at Wembley, but as a cyclist I can go and ride the same route as the pro riders – either in training or events, such as Prudential RideLondon.

“I’m looking forward to joining the ŠKODA team and thousands of cyclists in the Prudential RideLondon-Surrey 100 challenge.”

Emily Burns, Communications Manager for Škoda UK, added: “We are always looking for ways for people to engage with the Škoda brand and by providing vehicles to Prudential RideLondon, participants and spectators will get to the see practicality and durability of our cars in action.”
