Leading construction services and waste-management company Smiths (Gloucester) Ltd., have rolled out a striking new livery on four, high specification FH tractor units.
The Globetrotter-cabbed FH tractor units, which are powered by the latest Euro-6 D13K500 engine, rated at 500hp, are the first new Volvo trucks to go into service with the company, which was formed by businessman and Managing Director Alan Smith in 1982.
The striking new livery was designed to suit the curving lines of the new series FH and features a swooping diagonal line across the cab’s lower half.
According to Paul Smith, although the company has operated Volvo trucks for several years, they have always been purchased as late plate used vehicles, mostly FM-440 and 460hp chassis, with a mix of multiwheelers and tractor units.
On being asked why the company had decided to purchase new Volvo trucks, Paul Smith said that the company offers a ‘multi-layered’ service to its valued customers in what is a fast moving industry, and he felt that the time was right to upgrade the waste management transport fleet.
The company has had a good experience overall with the marque, he explained: “Our Volvos have proved reliable and the product is good,” he said, adding, “The Euro-6 FHs also deliver significantly reduced engine emissions, when compared to trucks of only a few years old.”
The new Volvos were supplied by Truck and Bus Wales & West. Servicing of the tractor units is carried out under a Volvo Repair & Maintenance contract by Truck and Bus Wales & West’s Gloucester workshop, which is conveniently located for the Smiths (Gloucester) Ltd.’s operating centres in the area.
