RAPID: Fastest Golf yet
Order books for Volkswagen’s most powerful production Golf yet, the 300PS Golf R, are now open.
Priced from £29,900 with first deliveries due in March 2014, the Golf R can achieve 0-62mph in 5.3seconds, or 4.9seconds paired with a DSG gearbox.
It is up to 18% more efficient than the outgoing model, with a fuel consumption of 39.8mpg (40.9mph with the DSG) and CO2 emissions of 165g/km.
Visually, the Golf R offers a new front bumper design, with large air inlets, modified radiator grille with ‘R’ logo and daytime running lights.
At the side, there are bespoke body-colour sills, and matt chrome-capped door mirrors.
The standard wheels are 18inch ‘Cadiz’ alloys with 225/40 tyres, while 19inch ‘Pretoria’ alloys are optional.
