BLAME: Olympics has skewed the market, claim SMMT

Last July’s Olympic fervour is being blamed by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) for another drop in bus and coach registrations.

The sector has continued its torrid 2013 with a market fall of 19.1% in the month and 21% in the year-to-date.

However, purpose-built coach registrations rose 10.5% in July, raising year-to-date registrations by 8.6%.

Wendy Williamson, Bus and Coach Manager at SMMT, said: “Last year’s strong, Olympics-boosted market has led to a steady downward trend this year.

“We expect to see registrations level off as we approach the end of 2013.”
