BENEFITS: New units are good news for MCL

Gwent-based logistics company MCL UK are reaping fuel and cost benefits after adding two Classic Volvo FH 6×2 Globetrotter XL tractors to their 65-strong fleet.

Designed to operate in conjunction with a variety of trailers – including curtain-siders, flats and bulk units – the vehicles operate throughout the UK from depots in Newport, Ebbw Vale and Kingswinford.

They were supplied by Truck and Bus Wales & West Ltd, with drivers so far happy with high levels of comfort and overall quality finish.

James Howells, Managing Director of MCL, said: “We are big believers in being at the forefront when investing in the latest available technology so vehicle tracking and SatNav are now considered the basic tools of today’s telematics.

“We now operate a dozen Volvos and our expectations are that these latest trucks will match – and even exceed – the benchmarks already set in areas such as reliability and fuel consumption.”

MCL almost immediately enjoyed a fuel consumption improvement of one mile-per-gallon through Volvo driver training.

The company also have begun to utilise Volvo’s Dynafleet App, enabling MCL’s Transport Manager to engage with drivers and ensure the highest levels of productivity.

”Dynafleet telematics enable us to monitor Key Performance Indicators, including driver behaviour and how this affects fuel consumption,” added Mr Howells.
