Leading road safety charity IAM RoadSmart is offering the ‘ultimate internship’ for one lucky individual in 2017-8 – but they will have to prove their worth for the high-profile role in a rigorous panel-style grilling to earn the coveted slot!
IAM RoadSmart is looking for a Younger Driver Ambassador from September 2017 to July 2018 in a competition called Get In The Driving Seat. The lucky winner will be touring the country spreading the safer driving and riding message to schools, colleges, and apprentice centers, plus working closely with members of the charity’s 202 local groups. Additionally, they will be challenging those in authority about their commitment to reducing the numbers of those killed and injured on the roads, and making proposals about the way forward.
The role is fully salaried and comes with a company car and additional advanced driving support, and could be a springboard to demonstrating the successful candidate’s potential to future employers.
IAM RoadSmart is inviting applicants to submit a 500-word document explaining why they feel they should be the charity’s next Younger Driver Ambassador by 9 June. They have the option of also submitting a video of up to two minutes long to support their application.
Once applications have been received, they will be whittled down to a final shortlist. Those finalists will be invited to IAM RoadSmart’s headquarters in Hertfordshire in early July where they will be asked to convince the judging panel of their capability for the role. The judging panel is:
– Nigel Mansell CBE, IAM RoadSmart President, and 1992 Formula 1 World Champion
– Sarah Sillars OBE, IAM RoadSmart Chief Executive Officer
– James Evans, founder of First Car magazine
– Shaun Cronin, former police officer, and IAM RoadSmart Regional Service Delivery Team Manager
– Eloise Peabody-Rolf, current IAM RoadSmart Younger Driver Ambassador
Sarah Sillars said: “Following in the footsteps of Eloise, our current Younger Driver Ambassador, will be no easy task. We are really looking for a special someone here – they will need to be both dynamic enough not to be afraid to challenge authority, but also be able to fit neatly into an existing organization set-up.
“This person will have an open remit to suggest what they would like to see in helping IAM RoadSmart reach and influence the younger drivers on our roads. They are the ones most at risk, and by having this role at IAM RoadSmart we are showing we are fully committed to helping new drivers as they begin their driving careers.”
Anyone who would like to be considered for the Get In The Driving Seat competition should send their 500-word document by email to email@example.com 9 June. Videos can also be sent to that address too. Alternatively, submissions can be made by post to Get In The Driving Seat, c/o Rodney Kumar, Senior Communications Executive, IAM RoadSmart, 1 Albany Place, Hyde Way, Welwyn Garden City AL7 3BT.
