With Tyre Safety Month taking place throughout October, Supermarket fuel card provider, fuelGenie, has urged motorists to ensure they’re staying legal by improving their knowledge on tyre compliance.

The law states that the minimum legal tyre tread depth for cars in the UK and Europe is 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre. However, many tyre and safety experts believe that this minimum legal requirement is not enough to guarantee safety.

Research carried out by TyreSafe highlighted that tyre pressure is also an issue, with 3% more fuel used when pressure is 6 psi below recommended inflation*. Following this, fuelGenie is encouraging its customers and drivers throughout the UK to check their tyres this October, to prevent risk of an accident and remain fuel efficient.

Robert Pieczka, Managing Director of fuelGenie commented: “At fuelGenie, our aim is to help customers cut fuel costs. Alongside using our fuel card to manage spend, customers can also save thousands by keeping company vehicles’ tyres in the best condition. Poorly maintained tyres can have a significant effect on vehicle performance and fuel consumption, so we would recommend that businesses regularly check tread depth and tyre pressure to stay safe.”

The fuelGenie Fuel Card provides business drivers with everyday value pump prices at over 1,350 conveniently located Tesco, Sainsbury’s and Morrisons forecourts nationwide. fuelGenie does not charge transaction fees or surcharges and offers unlimited free cards with no minimum monthly spend.
